The CD-i "I Want One" campaign came with a special CD-i and inlay which presented a timeline of what was coming to CD-i in 1995 - Including the PCD-i card

 

The 'I Want One' campaign was probably the biggest CD-i campaign that Philips organized during the marketing years of CD-i. It was the final try to push CD-i to the mass market. Next to the folder that we showed you here, there was also a special CD-i promotional disc. The inlay presents us a calendar of 1995 including all the events that were going to happen in 1995 so we knew what to expect. The campaign launched in January 1995 and was going to run the whole year. Philips was planning to release merchandise (like t-shirts) early 1995, followed by the title catalogue and the ECTS exhibition in March 1995. They planned extra TV advertising towards the Christmas holidays. Interesting detail is that the PCD-i Card was also announced: A plug and play card that allows CD-i playback in your PC. We discussed this card (and the alternative) in this article.




Another nice detail is that Philips mentioned the 'Young Telegraph Interactive Bus'. This was a promotional tour by the relatively new 'Young Telegraph'. The Young Telegraph was a weekly section of The Daily Telegraph (a UK newspaper) published as a 14-page supplement in the weekend edition of the newspaper. The Young Telegraph featured a mixture of news, features, cartoon strips and product reviews aimed at 8–12-year-olds. In 1995, an interactive spin-off called Electronic Young Telegraph was launched on floppy disk. (Around the same time that the 'I Want One' campaign started. Described as an interactive computer magazine for children, Electronic Young Telegraph featured original content including interactive quizzes, informative features and computer games, as well as entertainment news and reviews. The bus tour was combining promotion of the Young Telegraph and the CD-i campaign. At least Philips organized this in London. The I Want One campaign was also focused on UK.
