Did you know that the design of the Philips CD-i 220 Matchline Player was based on the design of the Philips VR813 Super-VHS Recorder? Philips did this more often to copy designs of its own products to create high-end products in a new product range, to prevent high costs of designing new products and to make sure Matchline products would fit in the same line-up. In this case, the Super VHS recorder never received as much attention as the Philips CD-i 220. Also the Philips CD-i 210 is based on existing Philips designs. Back then Philips had its own Philips Design on Consumer Electronics products.
