CD-i member Marco Parisio Java shared with us high-res scans of the CD-i title "Wimbledon Challenge". We posted about this rare CD-i game earlier. The CD and back cover reveal its publisher, which is Philips Professional Publishing. This gives away why this CD-i game did not get the same treatment as other CD-i games, why it is absent in most CD-i games archives and that there is a thin line between professional CD-i's and consumer CD-i's. So in fact, this title was published as a professional CD-i title. As it includes game elements, we would now classify it as a CD-i game, but the titles by Philips interactive Media International were not in the same catalogue as the ones by Philips Interactive Media. It is typical that the Philips emblem is positioned on the right side of the Philips brand. On the back it does state that it can only be used for private home use. Was this a give-away during any Tennis event? Are the languages included because it had to follow rules of the Tennis organisations (Wimbledon) before they approved it? It is another remarkable piece of history in the world of cd-i!
