Inca is one part RPG, one part adventure, one part educational and one part shooter. This strange combination actually makes for some great gameplay. Inca might be our favourite CD-i base-case title, I spent many hours in this game and it is probably one of the few that I actually completed 100%. You are El Dorado, the Inca people's last hope. As the Chosen One you take your space ship and have to collect three great Inca Powers; Time, Matter and Energy. Along the way you are hunted by the conquistadors and space pirates. The game features different gameplay styles, it offers both adventure game mechanics and space combat. After each level or section there are passwords, allowing you to continue where you left off.

I think there is no other game that offers so many different gameplay styles as what we have seen in Inca on CD-i. This game was also one of the most expensive CD-i games, together with The 7th Guest these games cost 140 NLG, most other high quality games were cheaper than this. Let's have a look at the variety this game has to offer:

A great game for an otherwise limited system... The storyline was quite imaginative. Taking the part of an Inca warrior setting out to save the world is an interesting slant. The panflute music and other "Inca-like" characteristics give this game a flavor all it's own. Some of the scenes move a bit slowly, and game play can become a bit repetitive, especially when shooting the Conquistadors. Otherwise, it plays well. If you still own a CD-i system, I would highly recommend that you have this particular game in your collection. Highly imaginative, and quite good for a CD-i title, this game has a fun storyline and can be fun for all ages. A very good title to add to your CD-i collection. Please keep in mind that this review is being written in keeping with CD-i limitations, and is being written in terms of CD-i specifically, and not comparing to other platforms.

This game was also dubbed and translated in various languages, even in dutch. In this time, 1993, this was quite special. Philips was very innovative in this and translated (or helped by supporting this) many CD-i titles into local languages.
