While we always think of CD-i when we see Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia, this title was apparently also released on Sega CD, one of the rival formats of CD-i at the time. It seems that in the ninetees more developers tried to have a encyclopedia on a home console as well, like on CDTV.
The new CD format allowed more formats to include digital video to their roster of compatible formats. For example, the Sega Saturn offered a Video CD card so you could play Video CD's on the Saturn as well, making it a bit more multimedia.
Does anyone have more examples of how other consoles tried to mimick the CD-i features?
