In our talks with David McElhatten (President of Philips Media Games in 1995-1996), he shared various interesting CD-i stories with us: "Did you know Voyeur 2 was was being developed by Robbie Weaver not POV. POV effectively disbanded when Dave Riordan left to head up Warner Interactive (one of their many ill fated attempts at having their own interactive division) and we sold back most of the equipment to David Todd who formed a company called Mass Media.
I was partially responsible for not releasing Microcosm by the way. It was not an easy decision, but the title was buggy and was being developed almost at the same time as 7th Guest (certainly a fantastic achievement for CD-I) out of a facility that we had in Dorking which by the way, was in the process of being disbanded. Remember, Microcosm was one of the first FMV efforts, that started before the commercial release of the add on FMV board for the 910 player and things were not stable at all - both in terms of the FMV board and associated software commands, but also in the Microcosm code.
Microcosm made a great demo but it had significant fatal crash bugs at least in the early days which we couldn't afford to put out there. Certainly, the title could have gone a slight re-code and probably would have made a great title, but there was also no real management in Dorking - and when I took over, I sent a very skilled but unproven talent over there to help with 7th Guest, as I could see the promise in this title and some of the members of Microcosm team evolved over the the 7th Guest before they moved to LA." - According to David McElhatten, the president of Philips Media Games in 1996.
Back to Voyeur 2. This CD-i title was eventually not released on CD-i but it was 100% finished. Eventually the testing phase discs even showed up so we have a working prototype of Voyeur 2 on CD-i. The title requires a Digital Video Cartridge. It is available for download at Gametronik here
[Thanks, David]
