Interactive Dreams is now testing the differences between CD-i Emulator 0.53 beta 4 and beta 5 - the differences are actually very small. The main difference is the expiration date: CD-i Emulator 0.53 beta 5 has an expiration date of January 1st, 2020. Read more about this expiration here. A few bugs has been taken out, but we've experienced some titles that seem to run better in beta 4 than in beta 5. So extended testing is very important. In our experience version 0.53 is ready to be launched in public. Of course we will let you know when the releasedate comes closer.
Thanks to cdifan we have our original ROM files back, I have to say that's pretty amazing considering this was 15 years ago, and his archive is better organized than ours :).

One of the key issues with some CD-i games is some slowdown in specific titles. Some titles are hampering with a low framerate and sometimes crash. It made us wonder if the reason behind this is actually the PC setup that is used. BurnCycle, who is testing a lot of titles with CD-i Emulator 0.53 beta 5, is testing with the following PC setup:
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
- 2.40 GHz
- 4 GB RAM
- 2x ATI Radeon HD 3870
Which is a bit outdated, but it should be enough for CD-i emulation. There are plans however with CD-i Emulator that would make it much faster. Gameblabla (The developer of Super Quartet on CD-i) about this issue: "cdifan said he has plans for an SDL frontend to his CD-i emulator and eventually open source it. If these all happen then you can expect much faster CD-i emulation, and not just on the RetroPie. (MAME is known to be bloated) In the meantime, you could use a Pi 4, should run better"
