CD-i member Barbarian_bros:"Here are the 2 different models of CD-i FMV cartridges : The 'standard' one for desktop/hifi CD-i models, and the 'MINI-cardtrigde' for 'slim' CD-i players (450, 550) and for 'newer' (after 1994) CD-i 470/490. Some games do not require the card for actually playing FMV, but use its additional 1MB RAM to preload levels, to allow playing SFX and music at the same time... Here's a chart of CD-i models and the version of MPEG-cartridge they need: icdia.co.uk/players/compar. CD-i players were distributed by Magnavox in North America. CD-i450 and 550 are identical, only difference was thet CDi-550 came with the 'Digital Video MINI-Cartridge' pre-installed while it was only optionnal for the cheaper CD-i 450. Unfortunately it will not be cheap nor easy to find. While 'hi-fi/desktop'CD-i models used the common (but expensive) 'Digital Video Cartridge' (22 ER 9141), the 'slim' models (CD-i 450/550/210/220) used the rare 'Digital Video MINI-cartridge' (22 ER 9956).
The FMV cartridge was included in the CD-i 550 but only 'optional' in the CD-i 450."
