Let's discuss the copyrights and credits of all the CD-i material that is posted by many of you. Although practically all the articles on Interactive Dreams end with credits and thanks messages, it appeared in the past year that a very small minority of you accuse us of denying copyright or missing credits. We were even told that quoting was not allowed. We feel very sorry that this is happening, but we need to clarify our worries.
Our team really appreciates the open CD-i Community and we aim to be one open community, a place where we share info about CD-i and talk about this. We feel that anyone who shares and posts their CD-i information/pictures, deserves respect and credits. Sometimes we observe that copyrights/credits are claimed when taken from other sources, or that donated pictures are watermarked to push a certain name. Sometimes this is so obtrusive that we want to focus on the CD-i message, rather than a website name.
The original poster always gets credits (that is, if you want to as several members want to stay anonymous). But when pictures are linked through again and pop up on other websites, sometimes this is a grey area: who is getting copyright or credits: The user that originally posts the picture (for example, on ebay) or shares it via email with a few people, the CD-i member who captures the image and re-posts this on another source (like on a forum or facebook), or the website it is re-posted on (who took it off the forum) ?
CD-i member Dizzzy backed us up in a nice comment: "Sorry if I crossed a community faux pas. But there is nothing copyrightable about these images, so I will continue to reference them in my research. I do appreciate everyone's work, personally I've preserved thousands of rare game discs, and scanned hundreds. But there's only so much time in the day and I don't have enough bandwidth to collect hundreds of images and credit each person for taking a photo or scan, nor is there room to do so on the pages without adding clutter. I'd rather focus on getting the work done."
We're here to share everything in one open CD-i Community! (of course with respect to the work that is done by all of us)
