Here's a remarkable piece of information. You know we at Interactive Dreams are hunting down Discworld on CD-i for many years and we are still confident a lost CD-i protodisc exists somewhere. I visited the former Dutch CD-i publisher a while back and one of the topics was Discworld. He shared with me the original order map that was given to CD-i account managers (responsible for software sales) with all the information on current CD-i titles. To my surprise, Discworld CD-i was in it.
It gives some details (and names!) behind this CD-i project. One little detail is that the original manual was planned to be included (the same as I've seen in the DOS version). Philips in Hasselt (Frans Penders) actually translated the official CD-i test guide of Discworld to the specifications of CD-i (with respect to the control buttons and menu structure.) Another aspect was the fact that this was a DV-i title, which means this was going to use the Digital Video Cartridge.
Two SKU's were planned, the general English/German/French/Dutch version already had a catalogue number: 8100289. The other version would include Italian and Spanish/Portuguese. One of the reasons of delay, according to our source, was that the developer was required to create a base-case CD-i title instead of a 'Digital Video on CD-i' title, as this would reach a wider public (and therefor higher sales expectations). This map was dated 1995, which gives an indication that this title was ready for release for quite some time before they killed it in 1997.
We're unsure what the reason was for this delay but we've seen it more often in CD-i projects, especially with third party projects that were often carried out by just one person.
