Being an astronomy fan myself this is one of the favourite subjects for me on CD-i. I was recently told this title remained unreleased but that's certainly not the case. I bought it myself for 90 guilders in our local Philips Shop (Eindhoven still has a dedicated Philips shop for their employees) - This title was produced in 1993 by Multi Media Corporation, which I believe this was their only CD-i title. It did not require a DVC and it shows again the diversity of the CD-i platform: This title allowed you to go on an interplanetary journey, with your host Patrick Moore.
I love the knowledge part on this disc including background info of all our planets, including:
Fly to the planets, fly to the sun, asteroids and comets. Patrick Moore the world famous astronomer and television personality is your in flight guide to the planets. Tom Baker, time traveller extraordinaire will take you back in time to explore the beginning of the solar system and to discover how the planets got their names. You’ll test your interplanetary flying skills to the limit when you pit your wits against the force of gravity in the fascinating games of planetball and gravity golf.
The Solar System brings you:
- Hundreds of fabulous NASA space pictures.
- Over 2 hours of expert information.
- Thousands of facts and figures.
- Planetary flyovers and other movies never seen before.
Below you see Solar System running at the Computer Museum in Helmond, The Netherlands. This is the 21TCDI30, the TV/CD-i combo made by Philips.
