This Socrates CD-i player is actually a Goldstar GDI-1000 CD-i player, but why did they rebrand it this way?

CD-i member Matt Tyrrell posted some pictures of his newly obtained Goldstar GDI-1000 Player, which is somehow rebranded to 'Socrates'. My memory tells me I have seen this Socrates name before, but I can't find it yet in our archive. It is typical that a CD-i player is rebranded this way, although it is more reasonable to think that it is a atciker by the company who used these CD-i players in a professional application, like a kiosk system at the Socrates Bank. Who recognizes the logo?

As the Goldstar logo was originally pasted on top of the loader and it was actually sticking out, it is not that obvious why a company would place their sticker right on top of this logo. It is like they didn't want the Goldstar to be visible. Could it be some kind of a competitor? If it was just used for a school r in any educational field, they would as well have placed the sticker somewhere else. On top of all, all other Goldstar branding is still there, including the sticker on the bottom and the model number on the DVC holder. We'll see if we find anything else. For now it is another great CD-i collectible.

CD-i member AmigaJay brings us some interesting fact about this Socrates brand: AmigaJay: "They also used Amiga CD32’s, they were used in Dentists and POI machines for customers"

"The "Socrates" is little more than a rebranded Amiga CD32 here.  The Amiga logo was replaced with "Interactive Patient Education", which is precisley what it was used for: As a kiosk system in denstist waiting rooms. There is also a CD for the Socrates which includes educational material about dentistry.  Dental Medical technologies still makes Socrates systems, although they are no longer based on CD32 hardware."
