CD-i member Erik Jacob discussed with me the possibilities to replace the cap of the CD-i thumbstick. On several pictures on the internet it is clear this is a problem that occurs on more CD-i thumbsticks. The top cap is made of plastic and due to material degradation the cap gets brittle and eventually breaks off. The pin inside will stay in its place and Erik Jacob now designed a 3d model of the cap that you can 3d print. Erik: "I am proud to announce that I have completed work on a replacement thumbstick cap for your Philips CD-i Remote Controller! It is 3d-printed, and modeled as best as possible to the original cap. However, some concessions were made to make the stick easier to print. The first version of the CD-i Thumbstick replacement cap is now available for download/purchase. Get it now at bit.ly/CDiStickCap!"

He continues: "I am proud to announce that testing has completed on a replacement thumbstick cap for the Philips CD-i infrared remote controller. Using a 3d printer, you'll be able to print out a replacement for your loose, broken, or missing thumbstick cap. For the CD-i enthusiast, this is the best way to fix your broken joystick remote! If you are interested in downloading the files necessary to print out a replacement thumbstick cap for your CD-i remote controller, please send a $10 USD donation to erikjacob691@gmail.com along with your email address and a memo referencing the CD-i thumbstick cap, so that I can send the file to you upon receipt of payment."

This is the first homebrew CD-i hardware project in a long time!

[Thanks, Erik Jacob]
