Let's have a look at the most rare CD-i games that exist. CD-i was active in three markets: The biggest market was without a doubt Europe, with The Netherlands being the headquarters of CD-i, as Philips was based here in Eindhoven. Next to that, a significant market was available in USA under the wings of Philips Interactive Media of America. Philips joint-ventured in Japan Interactive Media to bring CD-i to a third market: Japan. In the end, Japan was the smallest market for CD-i, it didn't succeed very well to get foot on the ground in the world of Japan, unfortunately. In the end, all three markets have its set of games, some of them being generally available, some of them being ultra rare. As always, collectors are always interested in rare titles. The same goes in the CD-i collectors market: Which games are considered the rarest? Let's have a look at this for each of the three CD-i markets:

1. Japan
Actually, all CD-i titles are extremely rare to find, but it is worth mentioning that we have found three exclusive CD-i games in Japan, next to the various translations of western CD-i titles.

  • Golgo 13
  • Cyber Soldier Sharaku
  • Mah-Jong
2. USA
USA exclusives are rare to find, a few of them are relatively rare, including Effacer and Axis & Allies. But the most rare CD-i game from USA is Pyramid Adventures. This title was not published by Philips so the distribution channel was far smaller, resulting in a very hard to find CD-i title nowadays.

3. Europe
In Europe, there are a few local CD-i games that were only released in a specific country. In this way, these games are also printed in limited numbers so they have become pretty rare as well

  • Alfapet
  • Wordplay
  • Magic Eraser
  • BMP Puzzle
  • Les Schtroumphs: Le Teleportaschtroumpf
