Thanks to our community we know that some CD-i releases actually were treated differently in different countries. Take these french releases by Infogrames, published by Philips Media France. This Chaos Control jewelcase (above the english version, below the french version) was packaged in a DOS game style, including big carton box and carton inlay, with a beautiful stamped Philips Media inside. There was room for an extra CD-i catalogue as well, but for most of it it was just to get more attention. I've never seen these packagings in The Netherlands, only in France. Other games that we found in big carton boxes include Flashback, Secret Mission and The 7th Guest.
Of course some releases were also different in other countries. Like the 'Wines of France' box that was actually a wooden CD-i packaging including a bottle of wine. And Cluedo was actually packaged in a big carton box to hold the markers and the score board inside.
