CD-i member Ekim Skirdneh opened up his Videotronic touchscreen system to look inside how it works. Videotronic was a dutch company based in 's Hertogenbosch, close enough to Eindhoven to develop a unique CD-i television case, in which a CD-i 470 player perfectly fits. A few surprises are inside. First, as we've seen before, the knobs to adjust brightness and contrast of the screen are built into the CD-i player, you can find the wires going from front to back. Also interesting is the counter on the back of the system, which shows the amount of hourse that the system was on. Maybe this was used when Videotronic used this system in a renting service so they could check how it was used. Perhaps they offered maintaining services after x hours of playing. It's interesting nonetheless how companies were actually able to change the design of CD-i players by Philips.

Below you'll see the insides when the disc tray is removed:

With the disc tray removed you can see the counter inside:

On the back of the player the mechanical counter shows the amount of hours this unit has been used.

[Thanks, Ekim Skirdneh]
