The same team that brought you Dragon's Lair also produced the excellent FMV Adventures Kingdom: Far Reaches and its sequel Kingdom 2: Shadoan. The game had an orchestral soundtrack by the same team who did this for Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Production values are outstanding, but you have to enjoy the limited gameplay elements as this is a true FMV adventure. It got more interactivity compared to Dragon's Lair, as you have to do more than clicking the right arror/button on the right moment, but in these adventues you have to visit locations in a particular order and find objects to progress.
The first game, Kingdom: Far Reaches, was originally called Thayer's Quest and released a laserdisc adventure game initially developed by RDI Video Systems in 1984, and later released in arcades as a conversion kit for Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. In 1994 it was ported to home consoles and PC under the title Kingdom: The Far Reaches. In 1996 Kingdom II: Shadoan was released for PC and CD-i, including the final two kingdoms and the final battle with Torlock. Shadoan was developed over nine months on a budget of over 3 million US dollars, with more than 300 animators working on the project.
Thanks to CD-i member Patrick Selten we can enjoy the covers in high quality, without any kind of watermark.
