CD-i member Videogame Obsession (Matthew Henzel) shared some nice memories of his time at Philips. He worked for Philips Interactive Media of America around 1993 and 1994. He wrote for the professional CD-i newspaper "CD-i World", not to confuse with CD-i Magazine. CD-i World was published in USA between 1992-1994 and targeted at a professional audience like developers and publishers. But it was of course also interesting as consumer to read these newspapers. It was folded like a magazine, but had the structure of a paper. You could find info on upcoming releases, as well as advertisements of CD-i stuff, including rare prototypes like the Sanyo CD-i player which we discovered in CD-i World.

The scans that Matthew shared today give a nice view on what was released around the CD-i World media. That included some CD-i discs, next to the paper itself, that included video material of developers talking about their experience with CD-i.

Matthew: "My dad, brother, and I used to browse Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia on the old 910 machine. Of course if you tell that to younger person now they'll just laugh." Well Matthew >> I did the exact same thing with my dad and I'm very proud of this memory!

Here's something I've not shared before. My original draft of the Link: The Faces of Evil CD-i review, along with the shorted version as it appeared in CD-i World Magazine. I actually beat the entire game with the Thumbstick, but recommended playing it with the controller. :)

Here is the rest of the CD-i World data sheets. Advertising was pricey!

Matthew continues with the disc collection, another great addition to CD-i World: "I also have some of their discs. I ripped and released a few of these back in 2002 (along w/ Super Mario's Wacky Worlds proto). The CD-i World discs were sometimes interesting. They'd often have videos of the different developers talking about their experiences developing on CD-i"

At least a few of these I've seen in our ICDIA Archive, so they will be explored in the future. We also have a collection of CD-i World editions, which we will scan and show in the near future as well.

And finally the paper itself: "This is the magazine I wrote for while working for Philips (PIMA). It would have been between '93 & '94.Does anyone happen to have issues of CD-i World (not to be confused with CDi magazine). I was never able to get copies of all my work and would love to see it. I have these."

[Many thanks to Matthew Henzel aka Videogame Obsession]
