Gobliiins was a lovely game in 1992 made by Coktel Vision. It is a puzzle game with adventure elements. You control a team of three goblins: Oups, Ignatius and Asgard (Hooter, Dwayne, and BoBo in the US release) to find four magic components. "A voodoo doll has turned their king Angoulafre mad and by collecting the components they can track down Niak the Wizard, the only one who can make things right. The player needs to solve various puzzles by combining the different skills of the three goblins. It's possible to switch between them and control them separately. Most of the puzzles are based on coordinated actions. One of the goblins can cast powerful but erratic spells, another can collect and use objects, and the last can hit things. Action icons are activated at the bottom of the screen. The game takes place in 22 stages, each of which has puzzles that must be solved in order to advance. The characters have limited energy, which can be sapped by traps."

Now did you know Gobliiins was released on CD-i in 1993? Perhaps not in the way you would expect it. Let's find out.

Coktel Vision developed next tot their games projects also educational titles under the ADI brand. These titles were used in classrooms in France and Belgium (Coktel Vision was a french company) to learn mathematics or languages on various levels. Now Coktel Vision actually programmed classic Gobliiins levels inside this ADI title (level CM2, but perhaps not all of them are tested yet). Those game levels become available if you reach a certain level in the math exercises. A perfect way to level up in mathematics!

If you want to play Gobliiins on CD-i, hunt down this title:

There is no mentioning of Gobliiins actually being on this title, but it really is. After acquiring the required level, a Gobliiin logo appears in the menu:

There are 7 levels that you can unlock like this:

It's really nicely coded inside the ADI title:

And like the classic game, you can play the Gobliiins level just like the original game:

Finally, two pictures of the disc package that this game is hidden in:

It's definitely a great trigger to hunt down educational titles as well and it sure gives it more value!

[Thanks, Alan]
