CD-i member Patrick Selten posted some very interesting articles that he found in 'Popular Science' and 'Popular Photography' Magazines in 1990 and 1992 respectively. The Sanyo CD-i player we've seen before but the Sony CD-i portable player is new to us. It was published in 1990 and it seems like this was even before Sony released the IVO-10 and IVO-11 portables in 1992.
The Sanyo CD-i portable player was posted in 2009 as well by Devin, which he found in a different press magazine. It's amazing how you can search for CD-i related stuff now with Google Books, as more and more classic press magazines are being scanned and available online. Sony prepared, as far as we know, four CD-i players. Only two of these actually sae the light of day in consumer stores. The IVO-10 and IVO-11 were portable Intelligent Discmans (CD-i's) and Sony demo' ed the IVO-12 as a stand-alone player with digital video, which was recently discovered here. A fourth player was going to be another portable Sony CD-i player without a screen (with the same design as the IVO-11) but after the announcement we've never heard of it since.
Meanwhile in classic Amiga magazines small quotes are found that Yamaha, Pioneer and even Samsung announced their first CD-i players. Unfortunately, none of these ever saw the light of day. Jorg Kennis shared what he saw in the past:
"Two more that I know of: I was present at a Panasonic CD-i demo at Firato 1992 (electronics show in Amsterdam), they were using a Panasonic-branded player. And I remember seeing a Pioneer-branded player once in a warehouse of Philips R&D back then. I don’t remember much about them, but I do remember that both were not simply rebadged Philips devices, they had a distinct look. (The Pioneer one was definitely not a Laserdisc combo, due to its smaller size.)"
