A very unique picture of the previously unknown Sony CD-i Player IVO-12. When Sony announced their Intelligent Discmans IVO-10 and IVO-11, they also announced the IVO-12 which had integrated digital video and was announced as a full CD-i player, instead of the portable ones. Sony announced a fourth unknown portable player without a screen as well, but there is no information about this. The IVO-12 was presented and demo'ed during the CD-i conference (year is a bit unclear to me but it should be around 1991, as Sony stepped out in 1991 of the CD-i standard. As far as rumours concerned, this CD-i player did not get in production and we're looking here to a demo model, it might even be a dummy module. It is very interesting however: More japanese companies have shown working prototypes, including Pioneer and Panasonic. Of both companies, all but nothing is available online, but thanks to stories by Jorg Kennis (ICDIA) and Luc Rooijakkers (SPC Vision) I'm aware that actual Pioneer and Panasonic demo CD-i players existed. Until today, just like the IVO-12, these CD-i Players seemed like 'vapourware'! In this IVO-12 CD-i Player, you clearly see the Sony CD-i logo on the tray, the same as was used on the IVO-10 and IVO-11 portable players.
