Steven Clinton from our CD-i Appreciation Group on Facebook brought us today some very interesting news: A press release by RSP announcing Donkey Kong on CD-i. We've found some proof before that RSP was in fact working on a CD-i Donkey Kong game, but this is the first physical proof! Development on a Donkey Kong CD-i title appeared in the work of Adrian Jackson-Jones, who worked in 1992-1993 at RSP (USA based independent studio founded by former Atari programmer Mike Riedel in 1984). Here, he worked as a CD-i programmer on Donkey Kong, the CD-i version.

Tucson, Arizona... Riedel Software Productions, Inc. (RSP), an award winning software development company of video games, announced today the signing of an agreement with Philips Interactive Media of America (PIMA).

RSP will design and develop a new video game based on the original Nintendo characters from the arcade hit DONKEY KONG for Philips' new CD-i player, the Imagination Machine. Compact Disc-Interactive (CD-i) is the newest innovation in home consumer electronics. CD-i players connect to your TV and stereo, offering a combination of audio, video, text and computer animation.

"The future of videogames is in multi-media CD-based technology and Philips is the leader in this field, stated RSP's President Mike Riedel. RSP has been developing videogames based on licensed characters for videogames machines and personal computers for the past ten years.

According to Stephen Radosh, Vice President of PIMA, "Developing DONKEY KONG for CD-i will be a real challenge requiring the expertise of true videogame developers. RSP was especially chosen for this project because of their creative and technical ability, and their experience in delivering other classic characters to videogames.

Riedel Software Productions is a leader in entertainment and educational software design. From original concepts to special effects, Riedel Software offers consumers true creativity and technical excellence in all of its games."

[Thanks, Steven Clinton]
