Thanks to the SNES2CD-i Adapter, you can change button mapping so you don't have to press 'up' to jump in Zelda & Link on CD-i

The SNES2CD-i Adapter is developing itself as one of the more must-have CD-i peripherals. A while ago we showed you the possibility to have a wireless gamepad this way on CD-i.  Especially when you have your CD-i player connected to a large screen HD television, you might enjoy sitting a little more further away. One other aspect that is sometimes frustrating in CD-i games, is the button layout. For example, in Link: Faces of Evil and Zelda: Wand of Gamelon on CD-i, when you jump you have to press 'up'. That's a frustrating combination when walking with the same d-pad. I would prefer to jump with either button 1 or 2. Thanks to the SNES2CD-i Adapter, this is now possible!

CD-i member LarryE developed new updates to his work on the SNES2CD-i Adapter: "My code changes, schematics, gerber files, parts lists, and build instructions are available now on github: https://github.com/larryerb/SNEStoCDi

It's a fork of the base project, and the two adapters are in their own sub folder.

I really like being able to tweak the code to change button mapping to feel better in some games, especially assigning one of the extra buttons to 'up' to make the Link and Zelda games much less frustrating to control. In fact, I ended up beating both games twice over in the course of developing and testing these adapters."

In one of our future articles, Interactive Dreams will dive deeper into how to create the SNES2CD-i Adapter yourself and how to change the button mapping.

[Thanks, LarryE]
