During the heydays of CD-i development, here in 1989, Philips Research had a Video Synthesizer to develop and experiment with video synths for CD-i. A video synthesizer is a device that electronically creates a video signal. This video synthesizer is able to generate a variety of visual material without camera input through the use of internal video pattern generators. For CD-i development it can accept and "clean up and enhance" or "distort" camera imagery. This was all in a prototype status for Philips to experiment what was possible in the world of CD-i. It eventually never went past this prototype. It was recently put up for sale: You'll hear more of it soon ;)
