Was the Philips CD-i 310 portable player actually released on the market? It seems only a very limited amount of information is available online

Philips prepared several portable CD-i players, mainly aimed at the professional market. This was a time regular laptops of decent sizes did not exist yet and CD-i could fill the gap to have a portable way to take your presentations with you. Most portable CD-i units had a built-in LCD screen, but not all of them. Just like how Sony prepared a screen-less portable unit (The Sony CD-i IVO-N7 player), Philips released the Philips CD-i 310. At least, we think it was released. Closer investigation shows the CD-i 310 was not in any pricelist and in fact, only two pictures exist online (which you see here). The CDI 310 was a so called transportable CD-i player, lacking a display, but with an integrated 3.5" floppy disk drive. Intented for professional applications where frequently changed actual data is needed. The CDI 310 needs the docking station 9142 to place the Digital Video cartridge.

The question now is: Was the CD-i 310 actually released? Did more than a couple of demo units exist?  Who you owns a CD-i 310 unit?

The picture on the bottom is from the CD-i player list at The World of CD-i, unfortunately cut and edited (bad quality). the top picture is from our ICDIA list, it origins from an official brochure, thanks to Jorg Kennis. Hopefully we can share more pictures of the CD-i 310 together, as sharing the CD-i platform and keeping it alive is for us the most important message!

The Philips CD-i 310, however, went further than just a picture; Jorg remembers he has seen this unit at Philips. However right now we only have the brochure which is uploaded to ICDIA, other than that the unit does not return on any pricelist...

[Thanks, Jorg Kennis, CD-i Fan, Omegalfa]
