Early 1992, American Interactive Media changied its name to Philips Interactive Media of America to prepare for a worldwide standard that would become the publishing arm of Philips content related activities. Before that, American Interactive Media was started with Philips in 1986 in Delaware, USA. In 1995, Philips shortened the name to Philips Media and Philips Media Games. In the early days, under the American Interactive Media flag, a number of first generation CD-i titles were released to the market in a longbox format.
The odd thing is, the sticker on the longbox itself appears to be either black or white. CD-i member L27 discovered this detail: "I noticed something odd today about my two copies of Battleship. On the inner box, one has a black label and the other a white. On the outer box, one has the AIM logo (on the inner box as well), and the other removed it in favor of the Philips Interactive logo. Both mastering codes of the PIMA and AIM versions are 03321112 02@" - It appears that the slipcase and disc are the same on both releases, only the inner sticker has changed colours (as well as the logo). This happened when the American Interactive Media-published CD-i games were re-released under the new name, Philips Interactive Media of America.
CD-i Blazers also discovered this during his preservation process together with Seventy7:"Seventy and I stumbled across this recently when we were checking disc codes. All the very earliest US longboxes were first AIM (American Interactive Media), and then given the later style PIMA (Philips Interactive Media of America) corner logo. Most of the longboxes only seem to have the later PIMA logo. Of interest to us is that some, though not all, of the longboxes that came in both versions also have different disc ring codes. The corner logos are sometimes a quick way to discern possible variants."
Another difference was spotted by CD-i member Sixersfan105 while looking at this Dark Castle release: It has the "Philips Interactive Media" logo on the right and the "Philips Interactive Media of America" logo on the left.
