When you read news articles from 1992 about Philips and the CD-i, it is already noticeable the press is not without hesitation about its success. And while 1992 was only the beginning of CD-i, Philips had to try to convince all parties that the interactive CD was going to be the right choice. Philips wanted it to be succesful - it should have become the new standard for multimedia. But the tech companies in Japan were hesitant, according to these articles for various reasons. Philips itself stays optimistic, but blames others when sales target are not met. For instance, below you'll read that apparently there were even shortages on components which couyld be the reason CD-i did not meet its sales target.
