In 1994, CD-i developer Media Magic and Lost Boys Interactive (Both based in The Netherlands) developed 'Dit was 1994', the first Dutch news overview disc full of Digital Video material of the ANP archive. All the news footage was licensed by ANP, who provided the database. Media Magic designed the lay-out and the technical aspects came from Lost Boys. The engine was made to last several years, and it did. Next to about 60 minutes of video, the disc offered a quiz and also about 500 pictures, including commentary. These kind of news overview discs were also made in other countries, by local CD-i developers.

In 1995, Media Magic repeated this trick by releasing 'Dit was 1995'. As the engine, type of database and lay-out was already there, this was a relatively cheap CD-i production. Philips Media, the publisher (specifically the Dutch publisher of Philips Media, Tom Steenbergen) expected this to last for more years, but unfortunately CD-i sales declined and Philips itself stopped support after the 1995 release. Philips Media however, continued to release this in 1996 and 1997 on CD-ROM, based on the same engine, made by Lost Boys. The relation between Tom Steenbergen and Lost Boys was very good and even after Philips Media sold its publishing activities in the Benelux to Tom Steenbergen, he continued to bring this disc to the market in 1998. Now it was not published by Philips Media, but by Tom's own publishing company, Softmachine. You might remember Softmachine as the publisher of The Lost Ride, also developed by... Lost Boys Interactive.

[Thanks, Tom Steenbergen]
