Just like the CD-i 220 was based on the VR 702/703 VHS player by Philips, the Philips Mini Hifi set including CD-i FW380i was also based on other Philips models that lacked the CD-i functionality. Take a look at the Philips Mini Hifi set FW330 and the FW360. Their design is exactly the same, the function button just lacks a CD-i output. Something that is interesting is the Karaoke logo on the FW330 above: Both models have a 'Microphone In' input 3,5mm jack so you can enjoy singing with Karaoke CD's.
Another interesting detail is what we see on the FW360: It has a 5-disc changer, all the rest is exactly the same. If you read our blog closely, you know about the announcements by Philips who were planning to release an update CD-i Hifi Set including 5-disc changer. It might very well be possible Philips was planning this design for that, as all components are already in place. This was announced as the unreleased Philips CD-i FW390i player.
