Thanks again for our Japanese CD-i member Gluon Van we discovered quite some new info on CD-i in Japan - One of his contributions is the discovery of the Manna Space CD-i players (which by now you will find on other places as well, but this is where they surfaced) - Next to the Manna Space CD-i player which was based on the Magnavox CD-i 550 player (including DVC badge).
Next to this model, Manna Space also released a licensed version of the Goldstar GDI-1000 CD-i player, which was slightly different but itself again based on the Philips CD-i 450 model. Remarkable that Manna Space released two models that were pretty much alike and it is the only brand that has both CD-i 450 designs in its portfolio.
Also interesting is that this Manna Space CD-i player comes with its own Marantz modem, probably intended for the professional (business) market in japan. We're not sure yet if this player was also for the consumer market. Manna Space also released some professional business related CD-i discs.
By the looks of it the Manna Space do not have their own interface or menu shell, the Magnavox version appears to have the Magnavox CD-i shell and the Goldstar GDI-1000 version has the same Goldstar CD-i shell. Of course, as we do not have the players in our hand, we cannot check if the ROM's are exactly the same.
