The Universal Exposition of Seville (Expo '92) took place in 1992 on La Isla de La Cartuja (Cartuja Island), Seville, Spain. The theme for the Expo was "The Age of Discovery", celebrating the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus reaching the Americas after launching from Seville's port (on the Guadalquivir). To celebrate this event, the "Sociedad Estatal Quinto Centenario" was signed to produce a modern digital product to represent the Americas including themes like history, future and its culture. As it was 1992, CD-i was an upcoming new format and promising to be a future-proof new medium. Philips Media was eager to publish this promotional disc set on their CD-i platform. And so it happened:
This “500 Years After” disc set offers 4 CD-i's, according to the developer "a new approach to the discovery of Latin America and a Real Insight into it’s links with Europe." The CD-i set is in the English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese language.
The four discs are labeled as following:
-
Iberoamerica – Descubra un Continente
-
Iberoamerica – Descubra su Historia
-
Iberoamerica – Huellas del Futuro
-
Iberoamerica – Cultura de Iberoamerica
