When Philips launched CD-i in Europe in 1992,all CD-i titles were released in a 'longbox' jewelcase. This packaging was specific for Europe only. Halfway 1993, alongside the introduction of 'Digital Video on CD-i' titles and the launch of the Digital Video cartridge in 1993, Philips switched to regular audio-cd sized jewelcases for all CD-i titles. Older titles were even redesigned and repressed to fit the new package design. The final CD-i title that received a release in a longbox CD-i jewelcase was Inca. CD-i titles released after Inca were released in a regular jewelcase only. In USA, Inca was never released in a grey longbox, which shows this process did not go at the same time.

When CD-i was launched in 1991 in USA, all CD-i releases were packaged in a grey longbox including a cardboard slipcase. In early 1993, Philips Interactive media switched to regular audio-cd sized jewelcases as well, just like in Europe. The reason was again the introduction of Digital Video and a broader exposure in retail shops. You will not find any longbox CD-i releases that require the Digital Video cartridge. All longbox CD-i releases (in both Europe and USA) are in fact base-case CD-i titles. In USA, the final release that received a grey longbox release was NFL: Football Trivia Challenge, which was released in USA in 1993 (In Europe, this was introduced in 1994, in a regular jewelcase.)
