Mutant Rampage on CD-i was one of those titles that were exclusive on CD-i and were going to compete with famous gaming series, in this example specifically with Double Dragon and fighting games like Mortal Kombat. Philips did not have a lot of fighting games on CD-i but it saw high potential when Animation Magic (the studio who also developed Link: Faces of Evil and Zelda: Wand of gamelon) pushed their CD-i engine to the max to release Mutant Rampage. The engine now offered smoother animations and it used the Digital Video Cartridge extra memory for the tilting backgrounds as well to give a high impact. Philips Media did not advertize all CD-i games but it chose wisely the ones  that were going to have the biggest impact on people and with this one, Philips Media was right in competition with Nintendo and Sega using pretty aggressive marketing!
