We're getting closer to a fully working generic power supply adapter for the CD-i 450/550 (CD-i Homebrew Project)

More CD-i homebrew on Interactive Dreams! It's time for more updates about the alternative power source (including USB) for your CD-i 450 (when the original power brick starts to fail). It is, whether it is already a 100% solution or not, an amazing effort, that the CD-i Community is experimenting with it. CD-i member Aashima Yoshihiro made the 5v dc power connector for his CD-i-450. We talked before about the possibility to create a USB power source for use with the CD-i 450, as it requires 5V. Aashima Yoshihiro did some experiments and shared with us his results here. CD-i member Keenan Cross now shares with us his new dongle to convert the original power output connector to a DC power source. We discussed the progress here and now he shares again more updates:

CD-i member Keenan Cross: "After doing a lot of research and a bunch more work, I'm getting closer to a fully working generic power supply adapter for the CD-i 450/550, based largely on a circuit Muh Mullet found on Instructables. This one requires two separate PSUs to generate the +5v and -5v currents, which is really not good, but it did actually power my CD-i on all the way, spin the disc, and generate sound (before one of my capacitors blew because it was old and salvaged from something else, oops.) As always I caution anyone who tries building one of these to be careful, since I have no guarantee it doesn't do any damage to the system; it's really for rescuing a system that would otherwise be as good as dead since the original PSU is so hard to get. I've also included my plan for the next iteration, which includes its own transformer and diode bridge (two things I learned about while researching this in the first place). Bear in mind that I'm a beginner in electronics and also not the best at math. Anyone is welcome to work with this who wants to."

[Thanks, Keenan Cross and Muh Mullet]
