If you find an original boxed CD-i player that is unopened for over 25 years, is it worth an extra high price?

Recently we've seen a boxed CD-i 212 player for sale on eBay. It is advertized as a brand-new CD-i unit, being boxed and unopened like this for 25 years now. A real 'treasure'. But is that true? To what extent is a 'new' CD-i player nowadays still worth the tag 'new' or is it worse compared to a console that has been treated nicely (but actually used)?

I guess after discussing it here, it was a reason for this auction to increase the price to 1600 euros (it was 1200 euros) - even more crazy. For this price you would receive a boxed unopened CD-i 212 player (A marketing number that was actually a CD-i 210 including Digital Video Cartridge). Condition inside unknown, but hey: it has never been opened so the player is still new. Right?

Please consider: With a CD-i player being stored like this for 25 years means significantly higher chance of leaking capacitors and a dead timekeeper, these kind of players might have partly destroyed itself in the meantime. A CD-i 212 packaging does not mean a CD-i 212 is in the box: It is a standard CD-i 210 player with the Digital Video Cartridge > You won't find any reference of a CD-i 212 on the player itself. I would not recommend to buy this player! In fact, the way how it is presented sounds more like a scam, please be aware!
