A Dutch cooking course including CD-i disc and a paper cooking book: That was a unique combination

In the Netherlands Philips experimented with a combination of a physical cooking book together with an interactive CD-i disc, offering movies of how to prepare certain dishes as well as giving electronic recipes that are also in the book. In this way, you had the option of preparing your meals in front of your television by browsing the disc, then finding the reference in the book and take it with you in the kitchen. A nice combination between a book and a CD, a true pre-internet combination as in these days, the book would offer you YouTube links instead of a CD! But we did not see this often on CD-i either. Probably because Philips knew you would not take your television to the kitchen and to follow all the steps by walking back and forth doesn't make a lot of sense. The inclusion of a true cooking book is a great way to offer something unqiue, especially in the ninetees when we had no YouTube. These discs were awarded with the ICDIA award in USA, a nice achievement! I'm not sure if these discs were also translated in other languages, I only know of the following:

  • De Italiaanse Keuken Thuis
  • De Franse Keuken Thuis
  • De Spaanse Keuken Thuis
