Dimo's Quest on CD-i was originally a DOS and Amiga title with the same name. Dimo's Quest for DOS and Amiga featured Dimo the frog, instead of Dimo the kid as we know him from the CD-i version. The original game was programmed by Infernal Bytes Systems in 1993. Dimo's Quest on CD-i was released in 1994. Thanks to Philips Dimo the frog was changed into Dimo the kid, something we generally agree with this was kind of a mistake, we all love the frog more! But the game itself is a gem with great puzzles. Let's compare some levels between the original DOS version and the CD-i version by The Vision Factory. The levels are very similar to the CD-I version of the game, but the story and main character are very different.
The DOS version shows a nive world map overview. In the CD-i version, you jump right into the action, but the DOS version has a nice intro explaining Candyland and it uses a world map to show where you are. It's a pity this was not included in the CD-i version.
The levels are very much the same and even the layout of the candy and keys are similar in many levels. Here we start at level one. The frog featured in the DOS version, the kid is from the CD-i version:
Level 2 shows more of the background effects that the CD-i version has, it is morew detailed and the resolution is higher.
Level 3:
The scenes between the levels gives you a password which is different every time you play it on a different player:
