CD-i was a region free format which means that European PAL titles are playable on USA CD-i players. The CD-i format was worldwide compatible. Right? Not really. The Japanese CD-i titles, clearly labeled NTSC, are not playable on my European PAL CD-i player. However, all titles that were released in USA under the Philips Media brand, are in fact playable on EU players. So when we ask ourselves this question: "Is CD-i Region free? Are CD-i movies intended for the north american NTSC market playable on european PAL cdi players?" ? They are region free, usa cdi titles will play on eu cdi players. I was surprised when i discovered japanese titles to be ntsc and not all of them are region free at all. But with the titles that were published by Philips Media, they were playable in both usa and europe.
