Really unique and amazing piece of art in this advertisement by Philips Interactive Media of America, advertising the trade agreement with Nintendo and promoting that Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong were making its way on the CD-i platform. I've never seen it before and always wondered why they never promoted it like this. Apparently they did, and now I wonder where it was published and who made this artwork? Probably it was used in the professional field: VideoGameArt&Tidbits: "they’re basically ads for businesses and investors to entice them to support their brand."

Whatever opinions we have about the art style, this is in my opinion a very important piece of history. No other company in time has ever done this, and signing Nintendo characters on your console, on a rival format, doesn't seem to happen lightly. Nintendo had a long running relation with Magnavox and Philips, did you know that Nintendo started in the videogames business by selling and introducing the Magnavox Odyssey in Japan? This advertisement affirms the strong position of Philips in the world of videogames at that time (it's not purely because of the lost contract of the SNES CD)
