This is the original oil painting that was used for the boxart of the 1992 CD-i game "Laser Lords". Made by Bob Eggleton: The "Laser Lords: A CD-Interactive Space Adventure Video Game Box Wraparound Cover Painting". This original piece of art was for sale at Heritage Auction, just like the clay sculpture that we featured a few days back here on Interactive Dreams.

"This gorgeous sci-fi cover features the "space iguana" (Starlord Zendo) who abducts the player in the beginning of the game. There is a hysterical review of the game on Amazon.com for anyone interested, but the original cover artwork is enough to make us want to play this CDi game from the early 1990s! The cover painting was created in acrylic with a fixative overcoat on illustration board. It is signed and dated 1988 in the lower right of the 26.75" x 15.25" image area. Handsomely matted to 33" x 22". In Excellent condition."

CD-i member Mary Emma Ditman was the winner of the Laser Lords clay sculpture that was at Heritage Auctions a few weeks back. Mary Emma Ditman: "I came across the buy of a lifetime (literally). This is the real clay maquette made by Ronald Valentine Joyce for CD-I's Laser Lords. It was up for auction on Heritage Auctions, along with the origin oil painting made for the box art. I did not get the painting, unfortunately."

She made a video about the clay sculpture, have a look here:

"One of the things that marked this CDi game as being so unique was the combination of animation and claymation in the opening and cut scenes. This figure was crafted by Ronald Joyce, the Chief Artist and Animator for the game. He also did the Claymation models for the Alice in Wonderland CD-i game. In this game, Starlord Zendo is your mentor, guide, and guardian as you attempt to find the Condensation Crystal and save the day! The hand-tooled clay maquette stands approximately 14.5" tall (with base). The wooden base is 16.5" x 10.25". The colors are not as vibrant as they are in the cut scenes as a result of dust and light exposure, and the figure has suffered from wear and age. There are cracks and some pieces flaking off, notably on the head fin. The hands are separate (likely so they could be molded and moved), but are included and can be attached. In Good condition. This is a one-of-a-kind production-used piece of this game's lore and history."
