The Smurfs: The Teletransportsmurf on CD-i remained a prototype, but Infogrames eventually released the French version

Let's have a look at various screens of the Smurfs games on CD-i. For a long time I've never seen a member here who has a copy of the official Smurfs game on CD-i. For a long time we even thought it was only a prototype CD-i (we only have an english, french and dutch prototype). Out of the blue a french version appeared on eBay a few years ago, which gave me the possibility to snap some nice pictures.

But it showed the french version was actually released in 1998. However, the dutch and english versions remain to be prototype exclusive, as far as we know. And what's even better, it's a very nice game, it's a mix of platforming and minigames. But you have to understand the english, dutch or french language to understand, depending on the version that you own.

CD-i member Shroo-man got his hands on a copy: "the release date on mine says 1995 not 1998. How strange are those product numbers: "SCHTRFR4021", "SCHTRFR4041" and "SCHTRFR4011"! a different one for each of the manual, disc and back cover. I played it, it's very nice. if you choose the plaform mode I think up to 4 different people can play but not at the same time. you have to choose minigames and the first player to finish 10 wins. I haven't completed it yet though some mini games need an understanding of French."

Best described as an 'interactive storybook', this title has just mini-games to play with... it is a base-case title, so no DVC is needed. You have to travel a path and collect ingredients for the grand smurf. He has to create a magic potion for the telesmurfer. This is needed to resque the Lady Smurf out of Gargamels hands...

Unfortunately the voice-overs aren't original (i don't know the french ones, but the dutch ones are not the original cartoon voices). The game starts with a cartoon describing the situation. Nice cartoon effects for a base-case title!

You don't have to play the games in a specific order, as long as you'll complete them all. You follow a trail, and press the button to start a game. Most of them are pretty simple, like catching falling objects, driving (as in micro machines) and avoiding objects, memory games, hide and seek, that kind of stuff.

Let's have a look at some screenshots of the officially released French version:
