Which games on CD-i can be played with two players?  Not that many CD-i games can be played with two players, but there are a few notable exceptions: International Tennis Open and Striker Pro were one of the earliest CD-i games that were released as two-player game. In the case of International Tennis Open, they even released a new physical version just for this option. Later, around 1995, Micro Machines and Rise of the Robots were released that also allowed to be played with two-players simultaneously. In 1996, Pac-Panic was added to the list. And in 1997, Whack a Bubble was released that included a two player head-2-head option. Also in 1997 Ultra CD-i Soccer was released with a two player option. But are there any more? I want to find the ultimate list of CD-i games that can be played with two players simultaneously.

The list until now (Two-player CD-i games that can be played simultaneously):
  • Arcade Classics (Ms Pac-Man)
  • International Tennis Open
  • Micro Machines
  • Pac-Panic
  • Rise of the Robots
  • Striker Pro
  • Ultra CD-i Soccer
  • Whack a Bubble
Next to that, of course you have more two player games on CD-i that allow turn by turn gameplay. To name a few:
  • Backgammon
  • Battle Ship
  • Lingo
  • Sargon Chess
  • Tetsuo Gaiden
  • The Palm Springs Open

Our Top-5 of two-player CD-i games that you can play head-2-head simultaneously:

1. Excellent head-2-head action, responsive controls and a great gaming concept, Pac-Panic showed us how two-player action on CD-i was possible!
2. Although the controls are not optimally responsive, the 2-player options to fight each other is where this game shines. Both have the same handicap here and the graphics look really good on CD-i (love the animations). I always read that people don't like Rise of the Robots; personally I enjoyed it a lot.
3. One of the first games that offered two-player action simultaneously was Tennis Open. The graphics were pretty realistic (especially in 1992) and the controls were responsive. I think this was my first experience playing with a friend together on CD-i.
4. Micro Machines was the only CD-i game that allowed two players to race simultaneously. I personally had a lot of fun with this one together with a friend! It was a bit slow-paced but overall a good CD-i experience.
5. One of the final two-player CD-i games, this meets the competitive gameplay of Pac-Panic, in a different way. Simple but effective, this was also most fun to play with someone together
