Next to Secret Mission CD-i, Microids had plans to develop Fort Boyard on CD-i, based on the television show

The French version of CD-i Magazine was called "Generation CD-i" and in issue 4 they uncovered another french exclusive unreleased CD-i project by Microids, the same company who developed Secret Mission on CD-i. This time it is about "Fort Boyard", based on the television show that was/is popular in France (and many other countries). Microids has even developed a new version on current consoles, so it is truely a long running format. But the original is dated 1995 and was eventually released on PC, but according to Generation CD-i issue 4, this title was also in development for CD-i.

CD-i member Arethius RGC found this: "In the french magazine Generation cd-i they had previewed two Fort Boyard games :
  1. Fort Boyard - la Légende
  2. Fort Boyard - le Défi"

From Microids: "Fort Boyard as if you were there: Inside this stone vessel posed on the sea, relive the thrills of the teams that have trodden the ground of Fort Boyard! In solo or multiplayer mode, take up the challenge by completing each of the activities to be found in the Fort and collect all the keys that will lead you to the treasure. Your turn! Collect as many boyard coins as possible."

In this issue of Generation CD-i, Fort Boyard CD-i was introduced to the public
In this magazine, "Generation CD-I" (n ° 4), dated 1996, on the cover of this issue, we can see a photo of Fort Boyard, with the following caption: "Fort Boyard. Play with your family on your TV!".

Around the same time, two games were released on CD-ROM "Fort Boyard, the challenge" and "Fort Boyard, the legend", both published by Microïds. According to this magazine, Fort Boyard was based on 'The Challenge' and was supposed to be published on CD-i in 1996. After the release of Secret Mission, both this project and the other CD-i project by Microids (Evidence on CD-i) were unfortunately cancelled. Probably because sales of Secret Mission CD-i were too low and the CD-i format was not supported anymore by Philips after 1996.

In an interview with Microids, this is written about their CD-i development:

"What next from Microids?

The masterful French development team currently have three more cd-i projects on the boil.

  1. Evidence
  2. Fort Boyard - The Challenge
  3. The Legend Of The Fort"

Which looks like Microids was planning two Fort Boyard titles on CD-i
