When Philips was developing the Digital Video standard they already had plans to publish movies on CD-i: The multi-format design of CD-i was developed to be more than just a games machine or in fact a CD-ROM competitor in your living room, it was a movie player as well. A true multimedia format. The VCD format was specified as the White Book standard. It was released in 1993. The Digital Video Cartridge was also released in 1993, together with a couple of digital video titles including games like Caesar's World of Boxing and The 7th Guest. But there were also movies available to promote the digital video standard. But as the white book standard (VCD) and CD-i's Digital Video were not released at the same time, the first batch of CD-i movies were not published as Video-CD's, but as the CD-i specific "Digital Video on CD-i"standard. At least ten movies were published like that, let's have a look below which CD-i movies will only play on a CD-i player, which CD-i movies were published as "Digital Video on CD-i" instead of Video CD?
