The final authoring/developing CD-i player made by Philips is the CD-i 605T/20. It is a professional CD-i player with an original price of 3750 dollar (1997). Compared to consumer CD-i players, it features extended memory, an internal OS-9 shell, a floppy disk drive, SCSI, ethernet, RS-232C and printer ports.
Its predecessor was the CD-i 605. Compared to this player, the 605-T was upgraded with a tray loading mechanism (hence the T in the name) and has a built-in Digital Video Cartridge. It also features a newer system ROM with version 1.3.
The professional CD-i players usually offered some extra features. There were professional players with an integrated floppy disk drive, with a parallel port to connect a printer or ZIP-drive, with SCSI-ports, with ethernet network connections or with up to 5 MB of extra RAM. Some players had a feature that enabled the users to customize the startup screen of the player shell. Several professional players were especially made for CD-i development studios, since they included input ports to connect an emulator (see CD-i authoring) to simulate the playback of a CD-i disc from an external harddisk for testing purposes.
Below you'll see the original CD-i 605 player. Compared to this one, the 605-T has a tray CD mechanism.
