If you have ever browsed through the references of ICDIA.co.uk (maintained by CD-i Fan now but first owned by Jorg Kennis, after the official ICDIA stopped their business early 2000), you might have come across the list of CD-i players and professional and consumer software. These lists, as well as reference material (Manuals, service & repair documents as well as authoring tools and newsletters) are having their roots in a physical CD-i collection, owned by Jorg Kennis.
Jorg summarizes: "The collection consists of around 1,000 CD-i titels, among them a few hundred professional titels that were never officially sold through regular channels. Furthermore, there are a large number of boxes with (internal) information sheets, brochures and other marketing materials, giving a good picture of Philips' positioning planning and intentions with CD-i".
Recently we (Jorg Kennis, CD-i Fan and myself) made a start in browsing through this collection. We have prepared a "CD-i Storage Space" where we intend to start documenting and preserving this collection. You can imagine this is valuable for CD-i Fan (to build more knowledge for use with his CD-i Emulator) and for myself (for documenting and archiving on Interactive Dreams).
Jorg continues: "We will start the process of inventorising all the materials, and we will update you from time to time on this blog. Expect a lot of new background articles on this site, and new information being added to ICDIA."
"It's interesting times for us in the international and online CD-i community, with lots of interesting projects going on at various places", according to Jorg. With the recent efforts at The World of CD-i we believe 2019 is a good year for CD-i! Thanks to Jorg and CD-i Fan for making this possible, and of course you will all read more about it in the coming months once we have time to sort out all the rarities inside!
