The later in time, the less obvious are original CD-i packaging boxes - This CD-i 470 gives a unique look on how it looked like in retail times

Somehow, the internet is full of packaging pictures of the CD-i 450, probably also the biggest selling CD-i player by Philips anyway. The classic CD-i 210, 220 and even 205 versions were all shipped in a very minimalistic cardboard design. It was only when Philips designed the CD-i 450 they also designed a flashy colored version of the packaging, with a lot of blue and lots of contrast in flashy attention points. After the CD-i 450, Philips released the compact component model 470 on the consumer market, but packagings are somehow very rare to find.

This inner box was packaged in a brown cardboard box anyway for shipping, but this yellow design is new to me. It is a german local version that was sold in Germany but also in Austria. This version was sold together with a Digital Video Cartridge. At least in The Netherlands we had a base-case CD-i 470 player that sold without a DVC. Philips released the CD-i 490 as well that has an integrated DVC (which means the DVC did not have the housing like on these pictures and you cannot take it out anymore)

Philips made clever use of advertizing on the packaging box how to get the best audio out of it by using other Philips products. And of course it recommends to use a Philips television for the best experience as well.
