Battle Chess on CD-i was a result of Philips licensing Caesar's World of Gambling over to Interplay for CD-ROM

Philips Media: "Battle Chess was a late in the game deal we did with Brian Fargo's company, Interplay and it was actually a result of us licensing Caesar's World of Gambling over to them for CD-ROM (as in those days, we were not allowed by management to do twin releases of products on CD-i and CD-ROM - as CD-ROM was the enemy!) So in turn, we talked to them about doing some CD-i titels, Battle Chess among them (I can't recall the one at this point in time) as a part of the deal."

Interesting quote by the former president of Philips Media: The reason why Interplay was preparing some CD-i titles on CD-i was because they were able to license "Caesar's World of Gambling"from Philips to release it on CD-ROM. Philips required that the title and lay-out changed because they did not want twin releases on both CD-i and CD-ROM. The name changed into Caesar's Palace and that one actually did get a release on CD-ROM....
