CD-i member LarryE shared his CD-i work on The World of CD-i and talked about his SNES2CD-i adapter which he built thanks to tutorial on Github. It made me realize that this is the perfect way to get a wireless gamepad to hook up on your CD-i player. Especially when you have upgraded the video quality of your CD-i player as well to connect your CD-i player to a HD television set.
LarryE: " I came across the arduino snes to cdi adapter project on github, and it looked great. So I bought some parts and made one. But it was kinda jankey, with wires plugged into stuff everywhere, and not a good long term solution. So I figured, how hard is it to make a pcb? Turns out not that hard. So I designed a built a little board around the arduino to fit into a simple project box I got from amazon. I've been improving it for the past year or so. I've updated the code and board to use an ATTiny85 microcontroller, and a few optomizations to the code to work better on the weaker microcontroller. The adapter works great with the 8BitDo wireless Super Nintendo controller."
The use of a wireless gamepad and an improved video signal is a perfect combination. LarryE: "Being a US player, my unit only had RCA Composite video output. So since I had the service manual, I ended up buying and then soldering in all the missing caps and resistors and a scart connector. Never worked with SMD components before, but for the CD-i I had to try it. It's now hooked up to my tv via an OSSC and it looks amazing."
