We received a review copy of the dutch book "Gamegeschiedenis van Nederland" written by Tom Lenting. Of course we know Tom from his CD-i review activities at Defunct Games. He has written a very nice well written history book about the gaming history in The Netherlands. It's been out for a while, and we at Interactive Dreams are preparing a review soon. For now, this screenshot (made by our friends at gamegeschiedenis.nl) show a bit what you can expect. Well, Interactive Dreams is in the credits, so it must be good :) - There's lots to find about CD-i, but of course all other dutch activities are explained in it.

It is -as far as I know- the first book about the dutch gming history in general. And it's rare that our CD-i gets so much attention in a book (the last one was written over 15 years ago). Youĺl read more about Philips, but also about the role of educational games in general: you'll find some perspective in why Philips decided to push CD-i with edutainment instead of a pure gaming console like its forerunners MSX and VideoPac. Iĺl save the rest for later though ;)

Can't wait for our vote? Head over to this page and buy a copy.

Watch out, we'll come back on this book on September 3, exactly 25 years after the CD-i 450 was released in The Netherlands. That's a milestone for dutch gaming anyway, right?

[Thanks, Tom Lenting]
